The Challenge

During the COVID‑19 pandemic, numerous startups emerged in the field of food delivery. Nackad is using this moment to test the market for a zero-waste online grocery store.

They needed not only a functional MVP, but one that could be implemented cost-efficiently to acquire initial customers and convince investors with solid data.

The Goal of the Partnership

To implement a digital zero‑waste supermarket, an MVP should be developed that integrates the following components:

  • A reusable system
  • An online shop
  • A delivery selection window
  • Tools for drivers, order picking, and labeling

A comprehensive logistics management software with an online deposit solution is to be realized that supports Nackad’s sustainable approach.

The Result

Step 1

Team

For the project, we assembled an experienced team consisting of two developers, one designer, and one project manager.
Step 2

Planning

We relied on proven technologies such as Node.js Express for the backend, the integration of Shopify and Shopware for the webshop, as well as the MERN Stack and Ionic for the development of a mobile app for the staff. The goal was to effectively utilize existing tools and develop suitable solutions.
Step 3

Development

Implementation and results:

  • Innovative Webshop: Developed individually according to Nackad’s specific requirements.
  • Order Picking Tool: Optimizes product sorting by size and distance for efficient order processing.
  • Route Planning System: Automates order distribution and optimizes route planning for drivers.
  • Automated Customer Notifications: Reliably informs customers about the current delivery status.
  • Deposit-Free Reuse System: Enables the use of containers without advance payment. Customers can use the containers for 14 days free of charge; if they place another order, the usage period is reset, otherwise charges are automatically calculated after the period expires.
  • Labeling System: Facilitates the labeling of packaged products. Products that have been filled independently in reusable containers are considered as in-house production and must be labeled accordingly.
Step 4

Implementation

Within just three months, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was developed that not only supported Nackad at market launch but also served as a convincing basis for acquiring additional business partners and emphasizing the sustainable approach.
